What is it?
The Lompoc Valley Community Health Improvement Coalition "CHIC" was created in response to the growing problem of obesity and physical inactivity in our community.
What will the Lompoc Valley CHIC do?
The CHIC will address social and environmental barriers to health. It will help families in Lompoc live a healthier lifestyle by increasing access to healthy food and opportunities for physical activity.
By teaming up with local health professionals to provide info and education to the kids and their families on healthy living.
By working with community partners such as the Lompoc Unified School District, Police Department, Fire Department, Chamber of Commerce, Lompoc Hospital, YMCA, and the Boys and Girls Club to provide opportunities for kids and adults to get involved in fun, active, healthy events.
How does this affect me?
Currently it is estimated the 35% of children in Lompoc are overweight. That is 10% percent more than any other city in our county.
Being overweight is challenging for children and adults, but it is also really expensive! Studies show that healthier people live longer, have a better quality of life, are sick less often - and spend less money on healthcare cost every year. It pays to be healthy!
Check Back Often
We will be listing upcoming programs and events on this site.
To improve the health of the community by assuring local access to a coordinated system of health promotion, disease prevention, and treatment services.
What We Do
"What we do is not direct service, rather we provide a F.A.C.E (Facilitate, Assess, Convene and Educate) for the community healthcare system."
Steve McDowell, Executive Director
